A lot has changed since then! My sweet baby boy, Jack, will turn 5 in September. He is going through a major change in his life that my Grandmother says will happen every 5 years. Jack has become a little stubborn and defiant. I know it's hard to believe that Jack can be anything but sweet. At the same time, he is growing up and amazes us everyday. He is so smart and soaks up information like you wouldn't believe. Jack will start kindergarten in August and seems to be very excited. For right now, he will stay at the school that he has been at for 2 years. He loves the staff and teachers there! He will be going to kindergarten for 2 years because he misses the cutoff for kindergarten by a few days.

Owen, who is now 16 months, is definately the opposite of his brother. He is very independent and can play by himself for hours. He eats like a horse and will try just about any kind of food. He rarely sleeps through the night, which is kind of a pain. Right now, Owen wants his shoes on at all times. He has even taken naps with them on. His favorite shoes are his Crocs. It melts my heart when he brings them to me and whines for me to put them on. The "punch" made me feel terrible after about an hour and as I was getting up to tell one of the nurses, I fell out! I was sooooo embarrassed, but the girls in Dr. G's office were so sweet to me. Mike has been to every doctor's appointment with me except today. He took Jack to school for me before he went to work. After I laid in an exam room for about 20 minutes, I drove myself home. Before I left the office, I was able to schedule Owen's 4D ultrasound for the week before Christmas. Hopefully, I passed my test!

Mike and I have a friend from Troy who is not doing well at all. He has had a number of problems including H1N1 and pneumonia. His name is Chris Patterson. He was one of Mike's fraternity brothers and dated one of my roomates. Chris is one of the sweetest guys you will ever meet, so please pray that he recovers quickly!
Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3468333926721226554.post-28464762199502258272009-11-09T17:24:00.004-06:002009-11-09T17:40:55.720-06:00Peanut 2009
Anyone who lives in Dothan knows what a big deal the Peanut Festival is. We are still short a pencil box and safety scissors. I am still wondering why my 3 year old needs a pencil box, maybe for his crayons? Jack is so excited that he got glue, crayons and paint! I think Monday may just be easier than I am anticipating. Wish us luck!Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3468333926721226554.post-86302181112026105562009-10-12T19:06:00.007-05:002009-10-12T19:39:25.410-05:00The pumpkin patch

Jack had so much fun at the pumpkin patch this weekend! Not that I need to do a lot, but we will have to get new furniture for Baby Carty. I have spent most of my evening looking at baby bedding and I think I have found something that I like. Well, I love it, to be honest. So, hopefully this weekend, we can get it ordered.

Jack started talking about his baby brother in a positive light today. Mike and I have pretty much decided that Little Carty will be called Owen, but we don't have anything to go with it. Jack says it should be Owen "Thomas". Can you guess why?

Today, we also paid Jack's tuition for K-3. He will start right after fall break and he can hardly wait. I am so nervous that he is going to "real" school. I know that he will fit right in because there are mostly boys in his class, which is good because he doesn't really care to play with little girls very much. He is growing up so quickly, I just can't seem to imagine him going to "big boy" school.

Jack starting school has made me think about the things that I have learned in these short 3 years. Some of the lessons that I have learned were learned the hard way and some were just common sense to me.

1. Not all kids require a strict schedule! I always put Jack to bed at the same time at night,

but I usually didn't make him take a nap. After months of being told "you're having a girl" and "we need another girl in the family", we got the news that we are in fact, having another boy! We are so excited that Jack will have a baby brother and a best friend. As Mike says, "I have my boys!" We couldn't be more thrilled!

We decided to take Jack with us this morning as well as "Grandmother". I started preparing Jack last night for what we would be doing at the doctor's office. He was not interested at all last night. This morning, he seemed to welcome the little bit of conversation that we had. He was amazed at the big screen that his little brother's picture was on, for about a minute, then as a normal 3 year old, he lost interest.

As soon as the ultrasound tech put the wand on my stomach, we knew it was a boy!

In true, Jack Carty fashion, Little Carty showed "the goods". There was no doubt and the ultrasound tech didn't even have to tell us. Most importantly, Baby Carty is very healthy. His weight is a little above average as well as his measurements. Since Jack's weight was so low, Mike and I were excited to hear that Little Carty is above average.

Mike and I are so excited!!! On Friday night, we went to the homecoming game at Dothan High with Abby and Ryan. Dothan played pretty well and Jack had a good time. I took my camera with me, but when I tried to turn it on, the battery was dead. So, no pics from Friday night.
Today, we went to the Seller's twins (Abigail and Ethan) birthday party. The twins turned 4! Jack had a lot of fun playing on the playground and popping bubbles. It was great to see Kim and to catch up with her family.

Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3468333926721226554.post-39656225504837411092009-09-25T12:33:00.000-05:002009-09-25T12:53:00.816-05:009/25What a bittersweet day! Today is the anniversary of my Grandmother's death. On this day every year, I try to reminisce on all of the wonderful times that I had with her instead of thinking about what this day actually means.
Granny was a very small, petite woman who had such a fiery personality. You didn't want to mess with her, that's for sure and you always wanted her on your side! She loved to look good. From her head to her toes, she was always dressed well. I think she had enough jewlry to wear something new everyday for 6 months! Granny loved her church and all of her church friends, but most importantly, she loved her family. Her best friend was her sister, and believe me, they shared EVERYTHING! Granny's relationship with my Papa made me laugh quite a bit. He never seemed to know when to keep his opinion to himself, so she kept him in check all the time. She was a heck of a money manager. Pops made the money and she decided when and where to spend it. Granny loved a good social gathering. I remember many occasions, when I was a child, where she entertained her friends. The night would always start with a good dinner, and would end with everyone playing cards or a board game. Her friends always seemed like family to me. The memories that stick out the most in my mind is when she would hold me down and tickle me until I couldn't breathe! I had a great time with her!
I don't think I've ever met anyone else like my grandmother. So today, I remember her and hope that she is proud of the person that I have become. I know that Jack would love her too.Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3468333926721226554.post-43355265566204460982009-09-24T15:51:00.000-05:002009-09-24T16:07:28.841-05:00Jack loves trains!

Last weekend, Jack got to go to the train show here in Dothan. Mike's boss rode with him this week and he did very well on the review that he was given. Mike continues to do better and better with his job. Everytime he gets a review, he does bettter and better. I think if I were doing as well as he is, I would have a big head!!! Not Mike!

Oct 5 is coming soon, but not soon enough. I am getting so anxious! This is the part of pregnancy that I love the most! It seems that there are a few people that we know who are execting babies right now, so I know they are going through the same thing. There must be something in the water!
Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3468333926721226554.post-72676588114946897732009-09-21T18:37:00.000-05:002009-09-21T18:51:36.578-05:00Exciting news! Last night was a great night at the Carty house! Jack slept in his new "big boy" bed all by himself. Mom and Ron took him to the train show yesterday afternoon, so while he was gone, Mike and I set his bed up. I was so scared that he wouldn't like it! He immediately demanded that we put the "covers" on the bed and wanted to take a nap.
At his normal bedtime, we put him in his bed with the TV on. I layed with him for about 30 minutes and got up while he was still awake. When I went to check on him a little later, he was sound asleep. I couldn't believe it!

He did call for us twice, once at 1:00 and again at 5:00. Both times, he stayed in his bed and never asked to get back in ours. What a great night!

On a different note, my doctor's appointment went very well today. I talked to Dr. Gilchrist about my inability to sleep and all the other stuff that comes along with the "job". Most importantly, we have our ultrasound scheduled for Oct 5 at 8:00 am! So now the question comes, "Do you want a boy or a girl?" I can honestly say that it doesn't matter to me. I think that Mike and I have had it very easy when it comes to parenthood. Jack is a great little kid and I can only pray that the new baby will be half as wonderful as he is!

So, let's hope that tonight is just as great as last night!
Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3468333926721226554.post-91830021496691028872009-09-19T20:17:00.000-05:002009-09-19T20:41:52.534-05:00Troy Game

Today, we went to the Troy/UAB game in Troy. We had a lot of fun seeing friends that we hardly ever get to see. We also got to spend a little time with Ashley. We wanted to see her new apartment, but didn't get there in time. We will just have to make time when we go back for Homcoming. Ashley bought Jack his Troy jersey and it looked soooooo cute!

We spent a little time at the LXA tent where Jack played cornhole with the guys. We also met up with Melissa, Brooks and Chris Amos. Melissa painted some trains for Jack's room (will post pics later) and they are great! Tomorrow, he is going to the train show. What a fun and busy weekend for Jack!

Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3468333926721226554.post-28189354594700467432009-09-14T15:10:00.001-05:002009-09-14T15:15:30.667-05:00My first blog
Mike and I have been back in my hometown for about a year. We have moved from Ft. Walton Beach to Montgomery, and finally back to Dothan. Mike is working for ECR Pharmaceuticals and loves it! He truely believes that this is his calling. I help Mom out with her books and anything else that she needs.

Jack has just turned 3 and he is the most wonderful child that anyone could ask for. He amazes Mike and me everyday!

We are expecting our second child in March, so I figured this would be a great way to document the kids' lives and to keep our friends and family in the loop.
Carty'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000791479437004126noreply@blogger.com2
